An Oklahoma DUI felony or any Oklahoma felony conviction can have life altering consequences.  The most obvious is that you can face up to 20 years in the state prison.  Even if you avoid prison, many employers will be reluctant to hire you, many rights the normal citizen enjoys may be curtailed, and numerous professions may be closed to you.  Following is a list of rights and professions that will probably no longer be available to you:

  • The armed services will not accept you (this may even be true with a misdemeanor)
  • Security clearance for many federal and state facilities may not be possible
  • You cannot vote. (Oklahoma Constitution, Article III, Section I)
  • You cannot sit on a jury (38 O.S. 28)
  • Cannot run for public office (26 O.S. 5-105a)
  • Cannot be employed by the State (51 O.S. 24.1)
  • Cannot possess a gun (21 O.S. 1283)
  • Possibly prohibited from having a driver’s license (47 O.S. 6-205)
  • Prohibited from being an executor or administrator of an estate (58 O.S. 102, 126)
  • Cannot be a liquor dealer. If married to a liquor dealer, it will cause spouse to lose dealer license(37 O.S. 527)

  • Social worker (59 O.S. 1266.1)
